It has always been rightly said that health is wealth. But the modern lifestyle comes with a lot more health problems. One such problem is a disease known as gout which mainly attacks the body joints like knees, toes, elbows and wrists. It may sometimes harm the kidneys and urinary tract and change the color of the concerned and affected part.
Kidneys play a vital role in draining the waste material from the body. But sometimes due to high content of uric acid formed or kidney failure, they fail to do so. This leads to the deposition of uric acid crystals in various parts of the body- a condition known as gout and causes severe pain in affected joints. Excessive consumption of alcohol, bad eating habits such as very high intake of proteins, carbohydrates, unwarranted use of anchovies, mushrooms and organ meets may all lead to formation of high quantities of uric acid. This if instead of being excreted through the kidneys gets deposited in the body leads to gout.
Stress and strain are a part of life and is one of the causation factors of gout. Other reasons may be high blood pressure, excess bodyweight and no time for exercise. Some people may also suffer from this disease because their fore fathers might have suffered from it i.e. it is in their genes.
Although, the intensity of an acute gout attack, can be reduced by high doses of drugs, that are anti inflammatory in nature yet there are many natural remedies of gout. Taking a healthy and balanced diet is the first remedy before the disease even attacks a person. The system specially the kidneys and liver need to be fit so that metabolic wastes like uric acid are disposed off timely. Lot of fluids should be consumed by patients as an effective gout remedy. Acidity in the digestive system may cause gout. Neutralization of acid by the use of alkaline fluids can be a useful gout remedy.
Non vegetarian foods like meat are a rich source of uric acid to the body. Reducing or barring non vegetarian items in diet can be effective in curing gout. Reducing the quantities of foods rich in purine decreases the amount of uric acid in the body, thus a remedy for gout. Meat gravies, mussels, mushrooms, crabs and fish should be eaten occasionally as an effective gout remedy. These foods contain high quantities of purine which may increase the amount of uric acid deposits in the body. Take up a regular exercise schedule so that any extra uric acid is immediately thrown out of the body instead of depositing it inside. Regular and rich intake of fresh fruits like apple, banana, berries, cherries and vegetables like beetroot, cucumber, and their juices can cure gout. French bean juice if consumed daily is said to be efficient in curing gout. Fresh or canned black cherry juice is also useful in reducing the uric acid levels in the blood. A gout patient should consume high quantities of citric acid in the form of products such as lemon, and tomatoes. Citric acid minimizes the ill effects of uric acid thus preventing its deposition in the joints and preventing gout.
